"I want to play a free music game that goes with the beat." For anyone like that, here is NEON DROP, a DJ-style rhythm game you can play in your browser.
Key points
- A free DJ-themed music (rhythm) game, playable in your browser
- Shoot falling glowing orbs with pads of the same color
- Chain explosions with the same color, PERFECT on the beat, and a fever from the DROP gauge
- Play with mouse, touch or keyboard; graphics and volume are adjustable
What kind of game is it?
The tagline is "Smash the pads. Spin the decks. Drop the beat." Glowing orbs fall toward the deck, and you shoot them with the pad of the same color in a rhythm game themed around DJing. You choose a track to play.
Basic rules
- Each pad has its own color and shape. A = pink circle, D = cyan triangle, J = yellow square, L = green diamond. Press the same pad as the orb to shoot it.
- An orb that reaches the deck drains your energy and breaks your combo.
Game features
- Lock on and fire a volley: move the crosshair with the mouse, a finger drag or the arrow keys to lock on to up to 8 orbs it touches. Press a pad to shoot them all at once.
- Chain explosions: shooting with the same color makes the orb explode and set off nearby orbs of the same color one after another. Light the fuse where colors cluster.
- Scratch boss: appears every few bars. Whittle it down with the lasers from your side's jog wheel (S and K keys, or left and right swipes), and the shockwave sets off the orbs around it.
- PERFECT: shoot on the beat for a PERFECT. The crosshair's ring closes exactly on the beat. A PERFECT has more power and also fills the DROP gauge.
- Fever: when the DROP gauge is full, activate it with SPACE. Each pad sweeps away the orbs of its color.
Menus and settings
- SELECT TRACK, TUTORIAL, PRACTICE and RANKING.
- The results show your rank (such as S), max chain, PERFECT kicks, jackpots, score and more.
- Settings include volume (Master, Music, Effects), language, graphics (Low, Medium, High) and deleting data. Lowering the graphics makes it run lighter.
Tips for a high score
- Aim for clusters of one color: chain explosions clear them at once.
- Stay on the beat: shoot just as the ring closes for a PERFECT.
- Fill the gauge and go fever: it's best used when you're in trouble.
- Start with PRACTICE: get used to the rules, then go to the real thing.
Note: using earphones or headphones makes it easier to play on the beat. Adjust the volume with those around you in mind.
